after the battle?

Sanctuary ~after the battle~ is the finale song played before the credits of the game. It's played during the second fmv sequence, right at the end of the game after the chain of boss battles.
Sanctuary is part of the duo of Sanctuary and Passion, the two Kingdom Hearts II songs. There are four songs in total, two being Passion, two being Sanctuary. Sanctuary was actually completed by Utada first, even though Passion was the first to be released to the public. Each of the songs contain backwards lines, in all versions I need more affection than you know and in the openings so many up's and downs and I need true emotions. This is mainly because of the theme of mirrors and opposites that runs throughout the series. Many fans, including myself, have reversed the versions of Sanctuary to discover 'Riku's side' of the story. Passion does not contain this jist, though has a translation of its own.
More slower than the original, Sanctuary ~after the battle~ makes use of piano and other various instruments that make the song a complete tear-jerker. It really captures the moment, and how emotions are coming forward. After the shortened version of the song, returns an instrumental of the original version, which is played before the final credits.

lyrics?

I need more affection than you know

In you and I there's a new land
Angels in flight...
I need more affection than you know
A sanctuary, my sanctuary yeah
Where fears and lies melt away
Music will die...
I need more affection than you know
What's left of me...
What's left of me now?

I watch you fast asleep
All I fear means nothing

In you and I there's a new land
Angels in flight...
I need more affection than you know
A sanctuary, my sanctuary yeah
Where fears and lies melt away
Music will die...
I need more affection than you know
What's left of me, what's left of me

You showed me how to see that nothing is whole and...
Nothing... is broken

In you and I there's a new land
Angels in flight...
I need more affection than you know
A sanctuary, my sanctuary yeah
Where fears and lies melt away
Music will die...
I need more affection than you know
What's left of me, what's left of me now?

My fears, my lies...
Melt away...

why?

But this song is just... just beautiful. Seriously. It's PERFECT. The song is absolutely gorgeous, and the lyrics are deep and powerful. Utada has arranged the song in such a stunning way it's overwhelming. It's pretty amazing that the lyrics have a meaning both forwards and backwards. Sanctuary is one of my favourite sets of lyrics and I find myself humming them at various times. But ~atb~ is just... that little bit more special.

First off, the piano. I admit, I'm a sucker for piano songs. More than likely, if it's a piano song stuck with a sad/reunion scene, I'm going to love it. Hands down. I usually do, anyway. At the time I finished the game, I had not heard this song. I was sitll in shock from completing it at the time: and then came Sanctuary ~atb~. And dear lord. It was... so simple. Really, really simple, piano backing and lyrics. But it made me cry so bad. Again, it may be the sequence. But I think not. I listen to this song, and its like ritual I start crying with it. Then comes the second part of it... which, is the unique-ness that Sanctuary itself brought us. The backing, which is so unique it's unbelivable.
